No More Annoying Advertisements

Last Friday I received an email from Tim Storm, the owner of FatWallet, where he among other things expresses concern about the advertisements placed on WiredDeals pages. In particular one of the Google Ads had FatWallet name in it and linked to another web site, not FatWallet. While I do not control the advertisements placed on our pages by Google I have the ability to filter out certain ones - which I promptly suggested to do in my reply to Tim.

After giving it some more thought I decided that I will remove all contextual Google Ads from the web site. WiredDeals has never been about getting rich. If anything it is a way for me to implement our vision of a better user experience for those struggling to find gems in the huge amount of information FatWallet and SlickDeals forums provide. I hope Tim and SlickDeals owners share this vision with me and will allow WiredDeals to exist for all of us to benefit.

If you have an opinion on the subject and would like to share it with us and everyone else please do so in the comments section to this post.

I was unaware of any issue involving Google ads. The offending ad may be more of an issue for FatWallet and Google ads to resolve since I doubt this is the only site it appears on.

My concern is that SlickDeals or FatWallet would feel threatened by WiredDeals. I used both sites before I found WiredDeals, and now use both sites more (and more efficiently). WiredDeals provides a needed service that neither SD or FW can, and does a very good job of it.

I agree with the first part. I have made a snapshot of the ad in question. Here it is: http://wireddeals.com/deals/web/images/memolink.png

In fact the first time I have seen it was on my personal blog ( http://probargainhunter.com ) and not on WiredDeals pages.

I don't agree with the second part. SlickDeals and FatWallet in particular collect most of their revenue from affiliate commissions. I make a special effort to not break any links going back to the forums which will guarantee they receive the commission when people buy something.

If anyone it is SlickDeals who should be unhappy with this web site. WiredDeals makes access to both forums easy and since SlickDeals doesn't offer a cash back incentive like FatWallet does some may be tempted to go to FatWallet after they find a deal at SlickDeals.

However the postings from these forums have always been cross copied a lot and WiredDeals hasn't really changed anything here.

    Bring back the annoying advertisements

Annoying advertisements sound allot better than "premium accounts" (as opposed to "free accounts"). I think most SDers and FWers would agree, free "premium" accounts with ADs beat "premium" paid accounts any day.

I don't even see how to sign-up for a premium account, or any details.
